Subject: leadership

I think I had a basis for leadership before I came to UTC, but did not know how to utilize it very well.  I am still in a learning process.  I think that I have placed myself into leadership roles several times in smaller group settings, but I do not usually do that with the cohort as a whole. The times that I have been in leadership within the larger group I believe I was placed there - or at least I knew it was expected of me. I am, for the most part, an organized person which is important in leadership.  I can also listen well to several points of view and piece together what all is going on or what everyone sees as important.
Leadership is a very revealing thing.  If there are weaknesses that people are not aware of about you, they will show forth when you are in a leading position.  I think that is why at times I choose not to lead.  I also think that different leaders are needed for different circumstances.  For some situations one person might be a great leader that at other times would not be able to benefit the group in that role.  I think that the times I lead, I felt that I could contribute in that position. While other times I think there is someone more suitable for that role. I am always afraid to take the risks involved with a leadership position, but I know that I cannot grow to lead in the community the way I want to unless I am able to sharpen my leadership skill in an environment that allows for mistakes.

Angela,

I worked in many small group with you and you always offered excellent insight into whatever task we were given. Trust yourself. Take risks. That was what I was trying to say with my presentation in SR Seminar-don't sit back when opportunity comes get up and DANCE. And if you should happen to have two left feet-who cares? Without risks-life is just a boring endless sameness. And I know you want more out of life than that. So, like I told David, I expect great things from you two in the future. When you start your life's journey together step outside your comfort zone-David will be there to catch you if you fall and so will all of us.

Linda
